Professional Pathways: Navigating Your Engineering Career with SWE

Transitioning from a student to a professional engineer requires more than a degree; it requires a global ecosystem of support, mentorship, and standardized excellence. This high-level engagement introduces CPUT and UCT engineering students to the power of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - the world’s largest advocate for women in technology.

Led by Lori Kahn, a decorated TechWomen mentor and award-winning leader from Lockheed Martin, this session is designed to show local students that they are part of a massive, supportive global tribe.

Our TechWomen mentors and SWE members will share how local female engineers can join this international network to gain access to opportunities that navigate the journey from entry-level roles to executive leadership.

"Engineering is a global language. Through SWE, we are ensuring our women speak it with the authority and confidence of world-class leaders." - Lori Kahn, Lockheed Martin & SWE Award Recipient

Why SWE Matters for South African Engineers:

  • Global Opportunities: Access to international internships, job boards, and specialized technical communities.

  • Mentorship & Sponsorship: Real-world advice on how to handle the "first five years" of your career.

  • Recognition: Ensuring your skills are recognized on a global stage through SWE’s professional certifications and standards.

  • A Collective Voice: Learning how to advocate for inclusion and leadership roles in male-dominated industries.

This session is designed to show students and young professionals that they are not alone in their journey. By aligning with SWE, they gain access to a 'Professional Pathway' that ensures their voices are heard and their careers are scalable on a global stage.

We are counting down the days!
